Background History
New York Times bestselling author ‘Michael Buckley’ was born in August 16th, 1969 in Akron, Ohio. He grew up in Akron, Ohio with a big house full of kids. He has three brothers and two sisters. He was always very creative and interested in book, art and performing. He started doing stand-up comedy at 16 and was the lead singer in a punk rock band at 20, back before attending Ohio University. After graduating with honors he moved to New York City to be an intern for David Letterman and realized he had a knack for writing funny things. His first real job in the Big Apple was working on documentaries and TV shows for Discovery Channel, which led to some work for MTV, Nickelodeon, and so on. But he was not into the television. He stated that it is insanely paced and it’s feast or famine, so eventually his wife said to him to try writing a book. It was a daunting task for him because even though he liked to write, he didn’t have a lot of experience doing prose. Luckily, his wife was willing to help and soon she became his agent. Together, they have put together almost 15 books so far.
Michael Buckley is married to Alison Fargis, a literary agent and co-owner of Stonesong Press, and they have a son together, Finn. Michael Buckley is the author of two New York Times best-selling series for children: “The Sisters Grimm,” a “Today” show Al Roker Book Club pick, and “NERDS.” He has also written and developed shows for the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and Discovery Channel. His first picture book is the recently published “Kel Gilligan’s Daredevil Stunt Show” (Abrams Books for Young Readers).
